Meet Harvey Mackay | Part 2

In Part 2 of our interview with Harvey Mackay himself, Cliff Jones digs into Harvey’s creative side, and how he’s managed to become a seven-time New York Times best selling author.

Harvey shares that his father was again a huge influence when it comes to his passion for aphorisms. He posted stickies in the kitchen, bathroom and anywhere else he could find with these inspirational quotes. These quotes inspired Harvey early on to appreciate the importance of catchy phrases.

This rubbed off when it came time for him to come up with the titles for his books. Despite the fact that the theme behind most of his books is “prepare to win,” he knew that wouldn’t catch readers’ eye.

He worked with an advertising agency to brainstorm hundreds of titles, which they would all do research and then vote on. The runner-up for Harvey’s famous book, “How To Swim With Sharks And Not Be Eaten Alive,” was, “There’s No Off-Switch On A Tiger.”

Harvey and Cliff go on to discuss other items including the power of a strong network, Harvey’s first time speaking in China and the winning hiring strategy that keeps 70%+ of MackayMitchell Envelope Company employees with the company for over 25 years.

Tune in to watch the full episode. As Harvey says, “little things mean everything,” so don’t miss out!
